This year’s program was both remarkable and challenging. The Israel component was cancelled owing to the war, and our flights to Poland were also cancelled due to Dubai’s airport being closed. 20 Aussies still showed up including Holocaust survivor Rabbi Uri Themal OAM, and Bondi survivors Eva Weitzen and Hanna Abesidon.

MOTL is much more than a 2 week overseas trip. It is a life affirming journey that has a significant impact on the participant’s identity and values.

The world since October 7 and Bondi has felt darker. The surge of antisemitism across the globe has been chilling - in workplaces, on campuses and even in our own communities. At a time when truth feels blurred and empathy seems to wane, the work of March of the Living Australia has never been more critical.

Each year, the March takes participants, Jewish and non-Jewish alike, on a journey from the remnants of the Holocaust in Poland to the vibrancy and resilience of life in Israel. It opens eyes, softens hearts and changes minds. Those who walk with us return as witnesses, better equipped to speak out, to educate and to build bridges of understanding.
